Top 5 Pedometer Apps

November 27, 2014

You’ve treated yourself to a bit of retail therapy, walking for what feels like an eternity for that special pair of shoes. But how far have you actually walked? The NHS states that the average person walks between 3,000 and 4,000 steps a day. To help increase the nation’s level of physical activity, the NHS are challenging the public to walk 10,000 steps a day which roughly equates to 440 calories. FORZA investigates the 5 best pedometer apps that are available on iOS and Android devices, plus they’re FREE too!

Map My Walk – FREE APP

Map My Walk is often considered the number 1 pedometer app and was featured on the Dr Oz Show, the same programme that gave Raspberry Ketone its endorsement. The app does exactly what you expect, it tracks your movements on a map so you can see exactly what distance has been covered and the anticipated calories used. Great stuff for dieters. Highlights include providing information on your pace, bookmarking your journeys and seeing your monthly progress. As ratings go, the app performs well against the competition and it ticks all the boxes we look for. Download Map My Walk from the iTunes Store  Download Map My Walk from the Android Store

Runtastic – FREE APP

 If you’re a keen runner, this app provides you with some nifty support by tracking your pace and displaying this on the map of your journey. If you have your eyes on purchasing the soon to be launched iWatch it will integrate with it from launch. Plus the app works with Apples new Health app. Download Runtastic from the iTunes Store Download Runtastic from the Google Store

Pedometer++ - FREE APP

This free app is available on iOS devices and monitors the number of steps that you take on a daily basis. It clearly displays a traffic light system of your steps versus that golden 10,000 step goal. We noticed little battery drain, which is a massive bonus for iPhone users as the devices struggle to make it through the day on a full charge. If you’re looking for a simple pedometer that has received a substantial number of positive reviews look no further. Download Pedometer++ from the iTunes Store

Walk Star Pedometer – FREE APP

This app provides a lot more stats than Pedometer++ and provides a reward system when you meet daily milestones. As you would expect the app is easy to use, with very few options where you can go wrong. Be aware of where you place the pedometer on your person to ensure it records your steps accurately. Footsteps Pedometer Free – FREE APP

Targeted to those just starting out, this pedometer app provides you with a wealth of stats and techy information to analyse your progress. Unfortunately the app only tracks up to 3,000 steps a day, which is why it’s really only suited for beginners. Download Footsteps Pedometer from the iTunes Store
