• - Year-on-year increase of festive jumpers sold
  • - Initiatives now raise funds for charitable causes

Tis the season to be merry and many of us are celebrating the festive period by donning a Christmas jumper this winter. With some innovative homemade versions and an influx to the high street, more of us are joining in. Supermarket chain ASDA has reported sales of festive knitwear are up 160 per cent over the same period last year and recently sold their millionth novelty knit.

So what’s driving the Christmas jumper popularity?

There is a strong association with raising money for charity. Over the last couple of years Save The Children has organised a Christmas Jumper Day, inviting the nation to pull on their joyful jumper and donate money to the charity, where funds go towards helping those that need it. This year’s event takes place on Friday 12th December and will look to smash last year’s £1,000,000. Celebrities including TOWIE’s James ‘Arg’ Argent, pop songstress Leona Lewis and model Heidi Klum have all got into the spirit wearing a festive jumper recently.
