Beauty - Inside & Out

Beauty News

During the winter months, our skin can become rather dehydrated and lose all its lustre leaving your skin looking a bit dry and pasty, not a great combination, so to keep you feeling and looking your best I have recommended a few products that I consider to be winter ‘essentials’:
  • Carmex Original Formula - to keep lips well moisturized especially if you are going skiing this season. It replaces moisture lost from the wind, sun and dry air. It not only moisturizes but helps to heal already chapped lips.
  • L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream – My hands always get dry and chapped in winter so I use L’ Occitane Shea Butter Hand cream. The smoothing lotion will renew your hands in no time at all and contains 20% pure shea, honey and sweet almond extracts and butter and smells divine!
  • Caudalie Moisterising Cream-Mask Face and Eyes – This little beauty soothes and rejuvenates even the driest skin and is gentle enough for use around the sensitive eye area leaving skin supple, moist and healthy and the good thing is you get more bang for your buck as it is for eyes too! Use once or twice a week.
  • Aussi Hair Insurance Leave in Conditioner Spray - Don’t forget your locks this winter. I use this nifty little gem as it is lightweight, smoothing, conditioning and hydrating all in one!

Fashion News

New season kit is slowly creeping it’s way into our stores but we can still pick up a few last minute bits and bobs as the sales draw to an end. It can be very tempting to plunge straight in at the deep end and snap up all the bargains but you really should take a few things into consideration first. If you are going to willingly walk into what I would confuse with a jumble sale, its advisable to go with a pre-planned mental list of what you actually need. Just because something has 70% off does not necessarily mean it’s a bargain. High quality basics and well made classics form the backbone of your wardrobe so try and focus on these rather than faddy fashion items.

Bargain buys to look out for:

  • A well made winter coat such as a camel coat.
  • THAT pair of shoes you have been eyeing up for months, a decent pair of boots (in the right size of course) or a well made handbag.
  • Accessories like scarves and gloves. You can afford to go for better quality as it’s in the sale!

AVOID - buying anything that is ill-fitting, even if it is an absolute bargain. It’s very unlikely you will get round to altering it or loosing the extra pounds you may need to, to squeeze into it! Personally, I've had enough of winter warmers. Roll on Spring!

Fact or fiction? “The thicker the cream the better it will hydrate the skin” FICTION! – A thicker cream can actually cause you more harm than good as an overdose of lipids can trap dead skin cells leaving a rather dull appearance.

Top tip If you are suffering from a fetching pair of dry scaly lips simply dab on some Vaseline, massage in with a toothbrush then remove excess. Repeat a few times until lips are silky smooth rather than representing a dead fish!
